Mother’s Day Gift Project- Stenciled Pillow

May 15, 2012 By Jacque 36 Comments

One of the best things about having my sister live in the same city, only minutes away, is that I get to snatch up my niece Josephine and bring her to my house for some hard core crafting!
Since Mother’s Day was coming up I knew it was the perfect opportunity to get our gift craft on!
After some collaboration Jo decided she wanted to make both my sister and mother a pillow for mother’s day gift.
So with stencils and brush in hand we got to crafting.
Stenciled Pillow here we come!
She picked the colors and laid out the stencil exactly where she wanted it!
(She made each one different so they would know they were getting a special gift.)
Jo took advantage of having to wait for the paint to dry and hand made her mom the cutest mother’s day card…
(Love this kid)
She finished it just in time to add a border to her pillows
(check out that look of concentration …)
Once it dried her gift was ready for the sewing machine!
I pinned everything together and then Jo got to use the sewing machine for the first time.
I let her drive (push the peddle) after a minor moment of panic on my part she laid off the lead foot and things went smooth as can be!
(I mean seriously look how proud she is of her fabulous pillow!)
I had my entire family over for Mother’s Day brunch and Jo was able to present her gifts to them in person. Β They were so surprised, she really did an incredible job on them and they LOVED their mother’s day gifts!
I LOVE them too – and am so happy I got to help her create them!
Hard to believe these were made by an 8 year old aren’t they?
Crafting with kids RULES!!! Β I think next years mother’s day gift we will try to make tea towels from kid’s drawings – how fun would that be?

Oh how fun! I love this project with the kids. Of course I have two boys and they would run for the hills if I asked them to stencil LOL. Thanks for sharing with the newbie party. They turned out adorable.

I asked her two older (teenage) brothers if they wanted to help make something and go the normal 'No thanks' … well at least they were polite! hahaha

Thanks Mrs. Jones! She did do a great job. The furniture has been spray painted, Isn't this color great? It is RustOleum Painters Touch – Blue Sky. I was only able to find it at one store AC Moore, not even Lowes or HD carried that color :(. I have seen it on Amazon if you don't have an AC Moore … good luck! Oh yeah don't forget your 40% off coupon!
