The Easiest Way to Paint Furniture

October 2, 2014 By Matt 50 Comments

The Easiest Way to Paint Furniture

Over the past few years, Jacque and I have painted a decent number of furniture pieces, ranging from dressers to bar stools, to even chandeliers.  I really enjoy giving new life to outdated pieces, but the painting phase of the transformation has always been my least favorite part of the process, mostly because of the time it takes.  Trying to get adequate coverage over intricate details using a brush or thin spray paint can be really challenging.   After seeing the success that our friend, Gail from My Repurposed Life has had with her paint sprayer, we decided it was time to try out the HomeRight Finish Max Pro Sprayer for ourselves and see if it truly is the easiest way to paint furniture!

My latest project involved a side table for our guest room!  If you’ve seen our work before, you know that we love incorporating vinyl stencils into our furniture transformations.  This project would be no different!  Since this table’s final destination was the guest room, we wanted to add a welcoming message to it for all of our guests!

We started out by finding a font we liked and made a stencil using the vinyl.

Create-a-Stencil

With the stencil made, it was then applied to the clean table top.

We took the table out into the grass and set it up on a few pieces of scrap wood.

Here’s a closer look at the HomeRight Finish Max Pro!

HomeRight-Finish-Max-Pro

The Finish Max Pro is super simple to use.  Pour your paint into the provided container and secure it onto the sprayer.

HomeRight-Paint-Container

Once you’ve plugged it in there are a few adjustments that can be made; the spray pattern and the flow settings.

Having the nozzle rotated vertically will allow for vertical spray, while having it rotated horizontally will allow for a horizontal spray.  Pretty straight forward!

Horizontal and Vertical Spray

The flow is easily adjusted by rotating the control knob.

Flow-Adjustment

With the setup all complete, turn the sprayer on and when you’re ready to paint, simply engage the trigger!

Stay 4-10 inches away from the piece your painting for best results!

Spraying-Furnitre

The sprayer makes easy work of even the most intricate details!

Painting-Intricate-Detail

In less than 5 minutes, we had painted the entire table with really impressive coverage!

Painted-Side-Table

While the paint was still drying, we carefully removed the vinyl stencils and were left with the beautiful original finish of the table as the backdrop for the message to our guests!

Removing-Painted-Vinyl-Stencil

Once the paint had time to dry, we added a quick coat of poly-acrylic finish, and moved the table into it’s new home in our guest bedroom!

Here’s a closer look at the coverage on the detail of the leg after a single coat of paint applied by the Finish Max Pro!

Thanks to HomeRight, I’ve discovered that I no longer have to dread the painting process.  The Finish Max Pro may just be the easiest way to paint furniture!

We are such big fans of the HomeRight Finish Max Pro that we’d like to give you a chance to win one for yourself!

Wow! That table was the perfect specimen for the Finish Max Pro by Homeright!!! Those legs would have definitely been a challenge to paint by hand.

I love the table, and how pretty it looks after it’s makeover. The phrase is perfect and I LOVE that you let the original finish shine through. It’s really the best makeover I’ve seen in a long while. 🙂
Thanks for the shout out to MRL. As I recall, it was LAST year at Haven that I showed you how excited I was about my favorite Homeright products. What took you so long? lol

GREAT job on the little table…. I may be doing something like this soon.

I am researching paint sprayers and came across your website thru the Homeright website. As a baby blogger and newbie at paint sprayers I would love to win one. I bought a cumbersome paint sprayer about 3 years ago and was very disappointed at the mess and leaks and general poor finish. I love the finish and seeming ease everyone says this sprayer has.

With baby boy 2 on the way and a tight budget, I would love to paint my mismatched nursery furniture to make it more cohesive. I think I have 4 pieces of furniture (changing table, dresser, bookshelf, toy box) that would be lovely in a pale teal to contrast with the white paneling and dark crib. Oh the possibilities!
